AA 2700mAh 5pk Maha Powerex batteries for Nikon SB800 Flash.
Brand New in packets.

Each pack contains 5 AA cells and a storage case.

Maha Powerex AA Batteries provide the maximum performance for camera flashes and cameras.

Maha Powerex NiMH Batteries last up to twice as long as ordinary rechargeable batteries. These are quality Japanese made batteries.

Maha Rechargeable Batteries are designed to operate in extreme conditions.

Maha Rechargeable Batteries have a very high life curve. They can be recharged from 500 to 1000 times, whilst retaining a high capacity. Cheaper NiMH batteries have a shorter life curve, and provide less capacity after being recharged.

Memory free operation means you can charge Maha's Powerex NiMH rechargeable batteries anytime you like. There is no need to run them empty before recharging.

Maha NiMH batteries are excellent for power intensive devices such as digital cameras, MP3 Players, Portable game devices, portable CD Players, and GPS (Global Position Systems).

Maha Powerex 2700 mAh NiMH Rechargeable Batteries can be used as a exact replacement for standard AA size batteries and NiCD rechargeable batteries in almost all devices.

Test results in a Nikon SB-800 camera flash.

Glen from the DSLRusers.com forum recently did an extensive test of AA battery performance in his Nikon SB-800 flash, mounted on his Nikon D300 DSLR. I believe this is the first time a series of rechargeable AA batteries have ever been tested to see the real world results in a flash, and I am sure a lot of photographers will find this controlled test of real world value when choosing your batteries.

For the test, Glen compared four sets of 4 AA rechargeable batteries to see how many flashes could be achieved from each. Results are as follows:

Powerex 2700mAh = 266 flashes
Energizer 2500mAh = 242 flashes
IMEDION 2100mAh = 218 flashes
eneloop 2000mAh = 204 flashes

If you don't use your batteries as soon as you charge them, then test results are different. Some batteries are better at HOLDiNG their charge than others. Here are the results of the same test, 3 weeks after the batteries are charged.

Powerex 2700mAh = 250 flashes
Imedion  2100mAh  = 211 flashes
Energizer 2500mAh  = 208 flashes
eneloop 2000mAh =191 flashes

After just 3 weeks, the 2700mAh Powerex batteries provide 20.1% more flashes than the 2500mAh Energizers.

What our customers say about these batteries:
I purchased these for my Camera Flash, which was rated to take 150 flashes/photos using 2000mAh NiMh batteries.
I was needing to take over 1000 photos at a wedding, so purchased 5 sets of batteries.
However, these 2700mAh batteries performed so well, that I did not need to change batteries once! I was able to take over 1000 photos with flash and it was still firing strong at the end of the night. Much better than the manuals suggested 150!

These batteries are excellent! We bought 8 of them to use for the 2 Shure SLX radio mics at our church, and they save heaps on battery costs. We can now leave the mics on or on mute all the time, so there's less or no awkward silence as the speaker walks on stage and fumbles with the power switch.
We also bought the Maha MH-C801D charger as it can do all 8 batts at once, has a soft charging mode, and monitors each cell individually. After each service we just pop the batteries back on the charger and put in the other set of freshly-charged ones for the evening services.
I haven't tested these batteries for runtime, but the Duracell 2300mAh batts I tested gave about 8 hours of runtime (alkalines gave 11+), so these should be plenty for two 1-2hr services. It'll be a pretty long time before the cells lose enough capacity to be unusable in this situation.
I don't know if I've been unlucky or what, but the Energizer 2500mAh batts I had were awful. I bought 8 of them, my friend bought 4 of them. All 8 of my batteries degraded so quickly that within a few months, I found them useless as they would self-discharge a large amount within a day or two. Even when I use them fresh off the charger, they hardly last. My friend experienced the same thing with his set. There wasn't anything wrong with my charger as all my other cells were still working fine with that charger.
For a cost comparison, one AA Duracell Procell is about $1 each. You generally wouldn't use a set for more than two services. We have 5 services each Sunday, which means max running costs for our 2 Shures are $8 a Sunday. Add the other midweek services and it'll be about $10 a week. That's a maximum of $520 a year, not including any long events during the year. We tried to save on batteries by guessing how long each mic was used and measuring the open-circuit voltage of the batts, but there were still instances where the mics ran low on stage. With the rechargables, we just pop a fresh set in before the service - so much less hassle too!
The batteries are $21.95 for 4, or about $44 for 8 batteries. The charger is $139, for a total of $183. I estimate the batteries would last at least 2 - 3 years. Based on the max running costs with the cheaper Duracell Procells (compared to retail duracells), the rechargables paid for themselves in 4 months.

Ive had a lot of rechargeables over the years, most recently the Energiser 2500mAH AA batteries and some Maha Powerex 2300mAH batteries. both these and the energisers have seen a lot of action - thousands and thousands of photos in my digital camera, stints in my headtorch, CD walkman, minidisc recorder - and both sets are still going strong. a few weeks back I bought a couple of sets of these Powerex 2700mAh AA's and they are my new favourites. I just keep being amazed that the technology keeps improving, every time you think its hit a limit. i first read about the maha/powerex's when they came out on top in the Great Battery Shootout, which sadly doesn't appear to be being maintained anymore (http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM) - still an interesting read tho.

these batteries claim 2700mAh, which is a pretty big claim, but as far as i can tell, they appear to be (unlike many others) living up to it. One thing however, is that the health and life of *any* NiMh batteries is heavily dependent on having a decent quality charger. A crap charger will ruin even the best set of rechargables really quick, whereas a good one will keep them happy for a long long time. (i use a Maha C-401FS, which I've had for a few years, and its still going strong. i like it because it has separate circuits for each individual cell, unlike most charges that will only do pairs. still, if i was buying another, id probably get the C204W. i must sound like a maha salesman - im not - its just the best gear ive been able to find, and ive done a lot of looking...)
