Pixel King E-TTL Additional Receiver
Part: PIX-KINGC-RX
This listing is for one additional receiver only.
The King is Pixels second generation TTL flash trigger system, with the TTL-control based upon the Knight first released in 2009. Like the Pixel Knight, it does not support the Canon wireless protocol, so it does not work like the ST-E2 to trigger 430EX flash in remote mode, rather, it emulates a TTL cable, making the remote flash “think” it is mounted on the camera's hot-shoe.
The Trigger uses the 2.4 GHz frequency (unregulated worldwide), and has a range of over 100 meters.
The King provides 7 selectable channels and 3 different groups. For power, both the TX and RX use two AA-sized batteries. AA batteries last 3 times as long as a AAA powered trigger. Both the TX and RX have an USB-socket to allow firmware updates, so that future models of Canon cameras (such as the 5D Mk 3) can be supported. Both the TX and RX have a hot-shoe. The RX hot-shoe is for mounting remote Speedlites.
Features:
Will trigger both Canon Speedlites and generic studio strobes.
Compatible with Canon E-TTL II for automatic power control.
May control up to 3 different groups (7 combinations).
May be set to one of 7 different channels.
Wireless E-TTL II control from camera position of EX II flash units with a compatible Canon DSLR.
When using EX II flash units, you can also adjust the manual power ratio, FEC and zoom head on remote Speedlites with a compatible Canon DSLR.
Maximum sync. speed is 1/250 second unless using high-speed sync. mode.
High-speed sync., up to 1/8000 second, for EX II flash units connected through the RX hot-shoe.
High-speed sync., up to 1/8000 second, for studio strobes connected through the RX pc-socket.
USB interface for firmware updates. Can also be used for 5 volts DC power supply.
It does not support the Multi stroboscopic mode. For wireless E-TTL II, the flash in the RX hot-shoe must be E-TTL II compatible. Compatible Canon Speedlites are: 580EX II, 430EX II, 320EX, 270EX II. The manual also says that Canon E-TTL II compatible units from third party manufacturers Metz, Sigma, Sunpak and Nissin (no specific models listed) may work.
Compatible with Pixels latest manual triggers the Opas transceivers. The Kings TX will fire the Opas with corresponding groups and channels, and Hypersync HSS will still work using a manual Opas RX with a King as TX
The TX has only a few external controls. To make adjustments you use the camera's external flash function settings menu. The following Canon EOS bodies are listed as compatible: 450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 7D, 5D II, 1D III, 1D IV, 1Ds III. Older Canon DSLRs do not let you control the flash from the camera menu, and compatibility is limited to selecting channel and group on TX. It will then “dumb down” and operate like a wireless grouping flash trigger such as the Pixel Soldier.
